We provide therapy for families and young people affected by adoption.

Our family therapists are familiar with the particular needs of both local and intercountry adoptive families, as well as the common family difficulties that can emerge within adoptive families. It is helpful for the whole family to attend sessions. Sometimes children, teenagers, and parents will also benefit from individual counselling sessions.

What issues can family therapy help with?

  • Attachment and relationship issues
  • Identity issues including racial identity
  • Ongoing significance of birth families
  • Behaviour problems, depression, anxiety or other distress
  • Parenting in adoptive families
  • Talking with children about their adoption
  • Adoption at different developmental stages
  • Sibling relationships within adoptive families
