The Benevolent Society provides counselling, information and support services for adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents and others affected by adoption in New South Wales and the ACT, and in Queensland.
In NSW and the ACT we provide this support through our Post Adoption Resource Centre (PARC), established in 1991 to provide counselling and information resources for people affected by adoption. This followed the implementation of the NSW Adoption Information Act 1990, since revised as the Adoption Act 2000.
In Queensland, we provide this support through Post Adoption Support Queensland (PASQ), which has been set up in response to the Adoption Act 2009 to increase access to information for people affected by adoption in Queensland.
Through our website and other resources and our community events and training services we are also able to help people affected by adoption across Australia and internationally.
Our post adoption services include:
- individual and group counselling, and family therapy
- information about search and reunion
- intermediary services
- information and resources about transracial adoption
- the opportunity to share adoption experiences and learn from others
- an extensive library and resource collection
- training and consultancy for professionals and support groups
- research
